DECISION TOOLS SUITE
The Lumivero DecisionTools Suite is an integrated set of programs for risk analysis and decision-making under uncertainty, all operating within Microsoft Excel. The installation of Decision Tools Suite includes the following applications:
@RISK: Performs risk analysis using Monte Carlo simulation to show possible outcomes in Excel spreadsheets.
PrecisionTree: Creates decision trees and influence diagrams to map out complex decisions in a sequential, organized manner.
TopRank: Conducts automated “what-if” sensitivity analysis to identify and rank input factors affecting your bottom line.
StatTools: Provides statistical analysis and forecasting, replacing Excel’s built-in statistics functions with more robust and accurate options.
NeuralTools: Utilizes neural networks to make intelligent predictions from new or incomplete data by learning patterns in existing data.
Evolver: Performs optimization using genetic algorithms, linear programming, or OptQuest solving methods to find the best solutions to complex problems.
RISKOptimizer: Combines Monte Carlo simulation with optimization to solve problems involving uncertainty, such as budgeting and resource allocation.
ScheduleRiskAnalysis: Manages uncertainty in project schedules by analyzing schedule risk using Monte Carlo simulation.
System Requirements
Decision Tools v8.6.1 requires at least Windows 10 and Office 2016 or newer. This software is NOT compatible with ARM-Based processors, even with Windows 11 virtually installed. More information on system requirements is available here.
Decision Tools Windows Installation
You must log in with your Georgetown University email to download the installer.
Windows installation instructions are available here.
Decision Tools on Mac
We are NO LONGER offering VMWare installations on Apple-Silicon-based Mac computers for this specific software. M1/M2/M3 Mac computers or ARM-based processors are NOT COMPATIBLE with Decision Tools. This software will not function properly on VMWare or Parallels because ARM-based CPUs are not compatible even with Windows 11 installed virtually. Mac users can only access this software through a browser per the instructions below:
Click here and login with the Georgetown SSO
Select Desktop
Select Excel and select Internet Activation
When complete, exit Excel
You will now be able to select any of the tools using the desktop icons.
Note that any files saved to the virtual desktop will be lost after you disconnect. You may email the files to yourself or upload them to Box or Google Drive.

openLCA
openLCA is an open source and free software for Sustainability and Life Cycle Assessments, with the following features:
Fast and reliable calculation of your Sustainability Assessment and/or Life Cycle Assessment
Very detailed insights into calculation and analysis results; identify main drivers throughout the life cycle, by process, flow or impact category, visualize results and locate them on a map
Best in class import and export capabilities; easy to share your models
Life Cycle Costing and social assessment smoothly integrated in the life cycle model
User-friendly; user interface in a variety of languages; advanced and efficient repository and collaboration feature (currently developed)
Continuous improvement and implementation of new features
Hardware Requirements
Hardware requirements for openLCA vary based on LCA model complexity. For optimal performance, a faster processor and more RAM are recommended. As a general rule, 16GB RAM is sufficient. Here are the minimum system requirements:
Windows
CPU with 2 GHz or higher
6-20 GB RAM, depending on the background database and model size (6 GB for ecoinvent 2, 20 GB for PSILCA)
500 MB free hard disk space + space for databases (e.g. ecoinvent 3 requires ~250MB)
macOS
CPU with 2 GHz or higher
5-15 GB RAM, depending on the background database and model size (5 GB for ecoinvent 2, 15 GB for PSILCA)500 MB free hard disk space + space for databases (e.g. ecoinvent 3 requires ~250MB)
Linux
CPU with 2 GHz or higher
5-15 GB RAM, depending on the background database and model size (6 GB for ecoinvent 2, 20 GB for PSILCA)500 MB free hard disk space + space for databases (e.g. ecoinvent 3 requires ~250MB)
Installation
Download the installer by selecting your operating system from the tabbed menu: https://www.openlca.org/download/
NOTE: If you already have the software installed, uninstall it before reinstalling the latest version.
Windows
MacOS
Linux
Adjusting RAM Usage
After the installation, openLCA can use a quite moderate amount of memory (RAM) from your computer, to allow use and installation on many, also weaker, computers. It is typically useful, however, to expand the memory, especially if you plan to use modern, larger background databases such as ecoinvent 3. The approach for expanding the memory is slightly different in Windows and Apple systems. Check please refer to the minimum hardware requirements for allocated memory listed above. As a general rule, 16GB RAM is sufficient.
NOTE: You cannot allocate more memory than what is installed on your computer. You need to leave some memory for the operating system and other software as well. In order to see the available memory, check e.g the task manager in Windows.
