Panopto

Panopto Lecture Recording Overview

All official MSB course meetings listed by the Registrar’s Office for the Spring, Summer, and Fall Semesters are recorded by default.

For meetings not part of the Registrar’s schedule, including rescheduled classes and review sessions outside of normal class time, recordings must be requested separately here or by contacting the MSB Tech Center.

Publishing and Viewing Lecture Recordings

All recordings remain unpublished to Canvas by default until a professor publishes them for student viewing. There are two options for sharing recordings: on an individual basis or automatically for all meetings of a course section:

Instructions for Publishing Individual Panopto Recordings to Canvas

Instructions for Auto-Publishing Panopto Recordings to Canvas

Viewing and Retrieving Captions & Transcripts

Panopto can provide AI-generated captions and transcripts, though these are not ADA-compliant. The instructor can enable, edit, and download them within the Panopto interface. Instructions can be found here.

Lecture Recording Retention Policy

All class recordings will be retained for one year following the original recording date. Professors wishing to preserve individual class recordings for longer periods can request to have them moved to their personal folder by contacting the MSB Tech Center.

Panopto Event Recording Overview

Recordable spaces include all classrooms, Fisher Colloquium, and Lohrfink Auditorium. To request a Panopto recording of events in these spaces, please include the request in your general AV support request sent to msbhelp@georgetown.edu

Recording Alternatives

In spaces without Panopto recording capabilities, recording via Zoom Meeting is the best option. Please see here for further guidance or contact the MSB Tech Center.
